Not in my area. We didn't have our first mall until the mid 70's.

They were very rare in Oz.
Sydney's first mall, Roselands, was opened in 1965. Until then if you wanted to do any real shopping you had to travel in to the Sydney CBD where there were plenty of shops.
Now, of course, there are malls everywhere.

Yes i remember walking in gulfgate mall as a small child then almeda mall opened and the galleria in the70s here in houston
