Hi. Can someone explain this Doomsday Clock that I've been hearing about?

"The Bulletin" (more correctly, the "Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists") has always had (somewhere on the cover) the "Doomsday Clock". This is what the editorial staff of the magazine consider to be the situation with regard to the risk to humanity. The closer to midnight, the greater the risk. It varies according to international relations, environmental damage, weapons proliferation etc.

With the election of an unqualified and intellectually-challenged (whatever else you might like (if you do) about him) president in the US, the world looks like a much less warm and safe place than it did when Obama (whatever you hated (if you did) about him) was in charge.

No, it's been here before (and I think closer - possibly at the height of the cold war - the Cuban Missile Crisis perhaps).

I found this. It's profoundly disturbing, and explains why the election of Donald Trump (and a couple of other things) has caused the clock to be moved.

A bunch of smart people got together and tried to figure out how close we are to killing ourselves off. It started in the Cold War, when they figured how close US and USSR were to blowing the world up with atomic missiles. Now they also take into consideration global climate change and pandemics. If the clock hits 12, we are all supposed to be dead.
