I hear both ways... what is your opinion/thoughts/knowledge on the matter... is pneumonia contagious?

I don't think it itself is. But if someone has a weak immune system they could catch a cold from the germs left behind by you I'm sure. Good question.

So it depends upon some factors.

Many different germs can cause pneumonia. There are five main causes of pneumonia:

  • Bacteria
  • Viruses
  • Mycoplasmas
  • Other infectious agents, such as fungi
  • Various chemicals

Depending on How the bacterium or Viruses are transmitted and to what degree the illness goes.

So, if you are exposed to a Flu Virus, that chances of it escalating to pneumonia there but NOT guaranteed.

Because pneumonia is caused mainly by infectious microbes, pneumonia can be contagious. Pneumonia caused by chemical fumes or other poisons not made by infectious agents is not contagious.
