Is there anything good or acceptable to put in a 12 year work gap when applying for a job?

Sure. You could put "raised children".

Do they really accept that answer?

They sure do. I've interviewed a lot of people in my careers and always disliked an empty gap with no explanation. It leaves too much to the imagination of the interviewer.....you were in jail, on welfare, institutionalized, etc.

Thank you my friend.

Did you do any volunteer work?  For your church?  Drive any needy seniors around?  Any volunteer work is considered work. If it was consistent with the same people you could get a reference from them. Good luck!!

I took off six years to care for my daughter ... It was perfectly acceptable to the employers who interviewed me when I was ready to return to the workforce.  (I didn't even mention her special needs or heart surgery.)

I listed my career chronologically, and for 1980-1986 inserted the words "Took time to care for my child until I could confidently return my attention to the workplace."
