The wisest thing that I've heard was from my oldest son. He was three years old when his mother and newborn sister came home from the hospital after a weeks stay. His mother was crying because she was so happy to see her little boy and her tears were dripping on his Tonka truck. He looked up at her and said "mothers shouldn't let their tears fall on Tonka trucks, it makes them rusty".
My 8 year old niece, told her mom you just don't understand, I'm older than you think.
One of my work friends was enormous. Of average height she weighed in at 28 stone (that's not far short of 400 lbs). She went on a diet and one Sunday, after losing about 70 lbs, she was at church when a little boy said to her, "You're fat." Mother was horrified but my friend just said, "Well, yes I am, but I'm getting thinner."
She said the little bugger looked her up and down before shaking his head and saying, "I don't think so."
She told me with a smile but the good news is that when i saw her a few years later she had cut her weight down to 16 stone / 224 lbs. Still a big lady but a remarkable weight loss.
Not so wise, but funny .... I found out how powerful my daughter thought I was: The power went out in our whole town, and she looked at me and said "You ruined everything!"
"Tell the truth, Mom. You'll feel better."
My son was 6 years old and had a new babysitter. She had caught him in a lie earlier that day. After work, I went to go pick him up. His babysitter asked me a question that I was not prepared for, so I was hesitant in answering. Evidently, my son believed that I was gearing up to tell a lie and that's when he pulled out that little gem. Gotta love little kids!
