I live in a rented house in Connecticut. The electrical wiring is very poor. There was a short circuit in the house three weeks back, as a result of which I got a severe burn injury. Can I claim compensation from the house owner?

Be thankful all it was WAS a burn!

I mean, your electronics could have been fried with faulty wiring! 😫😣

You would have to prove "Willful Negligence" . . .

Meaning that he KNEW the wiring was faulty yet let you live there regardless. Not many people know what is behind the sheetrock or plaster in their own houses . . . Even after decades of living there.

Not sure about that.

There is an implied warranty of "fitness for use."

How he got the burn would be a mitigating defense for the landlord, however, if the tenant assumed an inappropriate risk.

I agree. I wonder, does the "Fitness of use" warranty imply that the landlord is responsible for annual or semi annual testing? If so, then some states (cities/Towns) might require certifications to be filed with the local "city/town hall" for all rental properties . . . depending on the law for commercial based properties.

Well it's spam anyway. A rental house in Connecticut and how does he know the wiring is poor?

"Fitness for use" and "assumption of risk" are general considerations, and there's a whole lot of facts that would have to be determined.

Another useless question that can't really be answered.

Wow

Yesterday you were putting a theater system in your house. No way would I do that in a rented house.

Give it up, we pay attention.

More likely ... The landlord would have a case for a lawsuit against you.  Who gave you permission to expose the wiring?  That's the only way you would have been able to touch it and get a burn.
