I was wondering how do you find out how far back your family name goes? My last name is "Starck" but I could not quite figure out how to type in the question or get to the right place. Can anyone help me figure this out?

You can use ancestry.com to research your family. You can also do some research at the office of vital statistics....whatever city you are in
