When I purchase the bagged bagels at the supermarket. they are only sliced partially thru. I have to get a a knife and finish slicing them before I can put anything on them. Is there some reason they aren't completely sliced thru, like bread?

It is so the tops stay paired with their bottoms.

But they can slice a while loaf of bread and get it into a bag intact and in order. Why would bagels be so much more difficult?

When you slice bread all the slices line up. With bagels you only line up on one side. Besides if you are going to put something on your bagel, don't you already have a knife out?
