You are not a person I would want to get on the bad side of.

My wife has a memory like yours - heck, she can even remember mistakes I made that didn't happen.

Close enough to say "yes."

I used to have an excellent memory but old age has slowed it down. We watch the BBC's quiz program "The Chase" fairly regularly and it's a bit frustrating when I have to grope for answers that would have sprung to mind even five years ago.

I told a friend that I had a mind like a steel trap, and she suggested that I open it a bit and let some of the little beasties out.

It's cool when my mind works like a steel trap, which I call "a rare presence of mind" and I'm in my element. I looked up 'mind like a steel trap':  http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/have+a+mind+like+a+steel+trap
I rejoice when I am aware of an optimal presence of mind, full use of all one's capacities.  And I think we all possess this.

One of my areas is song performance. Nobody shines at everything, but everybody shines at something.  I can still learn a song a day, when I have to.
