Next time you are at drive thru, pay for the next person's order. I have done this several times but one time in particular sticks out in my mind. One day I was at Starbucks and you can tell the lady behind me was having a bad day. Her car caught my attention when she pulled in behind me. Then she grabbed her bag in a jerky motion. I watched as she dug through it with exasperation. The body language from her passenger made it look like they had been arguing. The passenger was turned away. Then the woman dropped something between her door and seat and was digging for it. When the Starbucks person handed me my drink, I told i wanted to pay for the order for person behind me. She asked if I knew them and I said no, she just looked like she needed someone to do something nice for her. After paying I drove off. The way this particular Starbucks was set up I had to drive back past the drive thru to get out of the plaza. As I drove back by, she honked and she and her passenger were waving thank you. It seems to have brighten both of their day. Most time when you pay for someone like that you drive off and are gone before they even find out you paid.

I wrote this before I saw your post on your other question. Another thing you can do is have a $5- $10 gift card for a fast food place and when you see a homeless person you could give them that. If you have books you have read and no longer want, or even some clothes you no longer need but are in good shape, you can donate them to a shelter for abused women.

They do what you did on the radio station I listen to. Every Wednesday they encourage us to do "The Drive Thru Difference" if you can. One time the "pay it forward" or "drive thru difference" made news on a tv station. The Starbucks employee said it was the most heart warming thing as they watched car after car after car pay for the person behind them and it went on for 4 hours straight! My niece actually was part of one but not as long of a line. It really does brighten someone's day.

I am rarely in a position where I can pay it forward monetary wise however I have a big heart. I have learned that a simple smile or "how are you doing" or "have a blessed day" really makes people's day now a days. People are too rush rush rush so someone taking the time to say "I am so sorry you are hurting" when they express a pain in their life really makes a difference.

My daughter's and I went to our ladies tea party at church a couple weeks ago where we made a craft together. It was a "flower pen." The girls and I enjoyed it so much we decided to go out and get supplies to make some more.... And some more.... And some more til we had a box full. The day before mothers day I over heard a cashier saying her mother was deceased and her children were going to be with their father on mother's day but it was okay cuz she had to work anyways. She had the kindest smile and patience for the lady in front of me. The Lord put her on my heart so after church on mother's day, my children and I went to the store she worked at with a couple flower pens and a rose and wished her a happy mother's day. My children liked doing that so much for mothers day they passed out more flower pens to women all over the place. That is how we spent mothers day. And even though the ladies all said how special or blessed that made them feel, I feel like I was the one who was blessed cuz I got to witness my kids doing this and I know that in ALL the mistakes I have made throughout my life.... I must have done something right with them. 😊

In response to your first paragraph about something a simple as a smile, or saying something. I like to compliment people when they wear something that I think looks good on them. Often it is more about the color. I told a women in a grocery store a few months ago how the color of her shirt looked really good on her. She thanked me and said she had been second guessing her color choice, but was glad she made it after my comment.

I will try that some time. Usually I am the one people are drawn to to talk about a problem or two and I try to encourage them. ☺
