Hve you seen the new "Order and Pay" Kiosk in fast food places? You order and pay and pick up a platic number. Your food and cups are brought to your table less condiments and liquid.

I was driving a bus with 4 other adults and 8 children on a field trip. We stopped at a fast food place for lunch. I was asked to order and pay for the food (all adults chipped in). I had a long list and was first confronted by the Kiosk. I deferred to a human and placed my order. I casually asked the manager if the Kiosk was replacing humans. She said oh no. It was intended to and was actually speeding up the ordering process. She said they had so many problems finding and training people, who had no skills or basic education what so ever, they resorted to the Kiosk to assist in the ordering process. They had to actually hire more folks for the kitchen. I find it disturbing. Lack of education and basic skills causing industry to suplement with automation.

The lack of education and common sense is alarming.

I think she was "trained" to say it. People are resorting to robotic help cuz they can't pay employee's the high minimum wage. If you want to be employed it is best to take computer programing because these robots will need repairs to get out the kinks.

I rarely eat fast food, and if I walked into a place that had a kiosk like that I would most likely walk out. I hate going through the drive thru and talking through  speaker.

Well, then again, I might adjust. I love the Starbucks app where I order my drink as I am about to leave my house and then when I get to the store it is made and paid for. I just walk in and pick it up. No waiting in line. And Publix grocery stores do the same with their deli sandwiches, except you don't prepay. It is ready when you get there and you can go to the express checkout and leave.

My major concern is the lack of people who do not possess the basic skills and educstion to work in a fast food place. I think it is a sign our society will once again be divided along the educstion lines.

I agree there is a lack in many skills with the younger generation, and they also seem to think that they are suppose to get a top paying job with no experience. Somewhere along the way no one has to told them they need to pay their dues.

I went on a job interview about a year ago for an insurance company. Once you passed the basic face to face interview, they put you in a seminar to give you a broader sense of the job. The guy speaking was in his early to mid thirties. He was explaining how much money could be made. He then went on to explain that you had to put in the time to make the money. He asked everyone who had a degree if they thought when they graduated from college if they thought they would start off making the salaries that they had heard their particular degree afforded them. Everyone in their 30s or younger held up their hand. At no time through their education did anyone tell them the concept of a "starting salary".

I don't know if it is because I am a few years older or if it is because I come from a working class family that I always understood, no matter what your position, you have to start from the bottom and work your way up.

The kiosks are being brought in because companies can not pay the high minimum wage for employee's anymore. If you want to stay with a job that wont be replaced by robots.... You gotta go into computer programing cuz these kiosks and robotics will need real brains to iron out the kinks and bugs and repair them when they break down.
