How come you can use Coke to dissolve acid and clean a car battery but it don't eat through the plastic in a 2liter bottle?

Because the acids in the coke doesn't react to the chemicals that make up a plastic bottle.

As Willie indicated, it's all about the chemistry.

And of course, if one were to invent a liquid that would dissolve anything, what kind of container could it be stored in?

Too funny!!!! So true. 😊 Thank you my friend. 😆
I was trying to highlight that acid you were working with. WOW! So very interesting. I like reading about stuff like that, not necessarily the chemistry part but more for the medical part of chemicals. I'm so curious! If I may ask, what were you doing where you needed to work with such a potent acid? And why is plastic safe from this chemical?

I (in one of my more artistic periods) used to decorate class. HF dissolves glass (really cleanly, with soft edges). I don't think I (or anyone else) realised the toxicity of it (although we all knew it was capable of burning through almost anything).
