I doubt if there's a problem. I'm in Oz and that wouldn't be a problem here. I think the Kiwi laws are a little less stringent. One of my nemophelistic Angelino friends recently sent me a feather from a red tailed hawk with no troubles.

(I wouldn't try freighting Johnny Depp's dogs across, though.)

I am sure that there would be no problem sending those items. You would have to declare what was in the package, state that it is a present and give the value as "zero".

Since I am a few years away from the US, you should probably check that this is still true.
