I like munching on peanuts and it was nice when the kids were around to help out in the kitchen but I'm gonna with good old Uncle Sam.

Until I saw Jan Nicka's answer, I had been unable to wrap my head around "ants on a log" as a national day.
On September 7, 1961, through concurrent resolutions Congress officially named Uncle Sam a permanent symbol of American strength and idealism. (And I guess that's why I have a problem with what's going on with football and the national anthem.)
Letting kids take over the kitchen---not unless that have all been finalists with Gordon Ramsey.
So give me peanuts and Uncle Sam.
