Do you pay a hospital bill for cancer (or something like that)? Do the treatments (chemo) cost money? If so, and you find out you have cancer, but you don't have money for the treatments, do they give it to you on a loan/ for free or just let you die?

I had two months radiation therapy in 2010 and have been getting check-ups every 6 or 12 months since. Before the therapy there were doctors and a surgeon. Total cost? A few hundred dollars.

As Korvo One said, it depends where you live. In some countries you'd have to sell your soul to afford treatment.

As already stated it depends on where you live. Some countries have a national healthcare plan and the costs are minimal. In the US it depends on your insurance and also where you live in the US if you don't have insurance. I have a friend going through this now. She has insurance, but it isn't the best. She is going thousands of dollars in debt for her treatment. Not only are the treatments expensive, but she is losing time from work. What her insurance doesn't cover she has arranged to make small monthly payments to pay what she owes. She will be paying it back for along time.

Well, I have squamous cell carcinoma and will have to pay something toward that, though my plan covers much of this and the VA covers the drugs with a small copay.

They might not let you die but they will ship you off to the county hospital if you are short of money or insurance.

In the UK, chemo and all other treatments for cancer are free at the point of delivery for anyone normally resident in the UK, regardless of nationality.

Some very expensive treatments are not offered if they are considered not cost effective. So it isn't all good.

The argument being that if you can save 100 lives with a £50,000 use of medicine, if makes no sense to keep a single person alive for an extra year with treatment costing £1000 a week.

(I feel a blurtit question coming on).
