Wanting our new president to fail is like hoping the captian of the ship your on crashes the ship. It makes no sense. I hate my generation.

We had the same thing when Obama was elected, and the GOP did everything in its power to make sure he failed, sio it is not a new phenomenon. .

Actually ... I'd bet many, if not most, of them DIDN'T vote.  49% of the electorate didn't, according to reports I've seen.

Plus ... I'd bet many of them are Anarchists, who look for any opportunity to riot and cause damage.  That's why their faces are covered.

I have to agree with you Otis ! I didn't vote for either of them and it's over and done , so why not just wait and see what happens. There probably would have been protests if Hillary had won also. Time to just get over it and move on. In four years the people will have a chance to elect someone else.

I think the problem is "Acceptance" . . . There are certain things we JUST can't see happening. With the way Trump represented himself up to the election, the media was sure he wouldn't win, thus; this was the undertoned message conveyed when Hillary supporters caught the evening news. Now that we have this new reality of him standing before us as the president-elect , the brain refuses to accept.

The American people were looking for "Different" . . . You saw this in Obama's elections, and you saw it in this one. Hillary represents the same old tired Washington politician. If the Democrats had kept Bernie Sanders in, they would have had a choice between TWO people different from the normal politicians . . . Also, Bernie would have won . . . I guarantee it.

. . . Right?
I'm all for change, but Bernie at least (supposedly) had the backing of the people.
All I can hope from Trumps prudency is that he ACTUALLY cleans out the loafing "Dead Wood" politicians he said he would.
At the very least his international relations and "State of the Nation" addresses will be entertaining.

DarkM...do you give credibility to the idea that Hillary campaign "did" something through the DNC to maneuver Bernie out of the race?
I actually do think it could be true, because the source I got that from was so reliable...but still can hardly believe it...

@Dark Majinn - Trump said he was going to "drain the swamp" in Washington. Saw a list of his team today, and it looks like his first step in draining the swamp is to hire all the snakes.

Especially on Veterans Day this rings so true......just because you can, (protest) doesn't mean you should.

Get over it.

Nothing wrong with protesting .. But THIS display goes far beyond protesting. This is about violence .. This is about the few trying to dictate to the many. The general consensus want a democracy .. A society where people get a say .. Well the people HAVE spoken! They have said they wanted Trump.

Wait ,,, what ? You lost me. I have no idea what you are trying to say.
Am I mistaken to think .. Trump was elected by majority vote .. by the people .. and further, it's wasn't marginally .. it was by quite a lot.

@Bikergirl Anonymous - We are Americans, which means we don't do a lot of things logically. " As the Republican president-elect late this week began assembling a cabinet and administration to take office in early January, he still trailed Democrat Hillary Clinton in the national vote by more than 233,000 votes, roughly 59.9 million to 59.7 million. Clinton's edge could become even larger because votes are still being counted in states she won".

We have something called the Electoral College, in which each state is awarded points based mostly on population. Each state is "winner take all". Those points are what determines who gets to be Pres. So, if candidate A gets a total of 3 million votes in California, and Candidate B gets 3 million and one, candidate B gets ALL the Electoral Points for the State (55). Continued below:

KB Baldwin commented
And if Candidate A pulls in 3 million plus 1 votes in Texas and Candidate B pulls in only 3 million Candidate A gets all the points for Texas (38). So, at this point Candidate B has 55 points (ALL the points for California) and 6 million votes Candidate A has 38 points and 6 million votes.

The system is set up to give less populous states an edge. When the nation was formed, the less populous (and generally slave owning states) were afraid they would be dominated by the more populous north, so this was one of their conditions to participate. Another was that they were allowed to count slaves as part of their population at each slave being counted as 3/5 of a person.

So, Trump's victory is a direct legacy of slavery.

I'm not sure they are protesting because Clinton lost.

It's possible that they just have a clear vision of the end of democracy as we've know it and they are raging against the "dying of the light."

Trump tweeted that this was media instigated and unfair---I'm confident he'll get a handle on that problem.

(Wait, isn't that how dictators seize power---first control the media?)

We had the same with the people who were against Brexit, I found it weird because I fully expected us to stay in the European Union, so I was shocked when Brexit won, I think the same can be said for your presidential elections and Trumps win. The disappointing thing is when you witness people protesting against democracy.

Reality is, nobody was really happy with the two candidates in the first place, this is when the protests should of happened, but by voting for these candidates you are accepting them as leaders.  People out voting for Hilary only did so because they didn't want Trump, and vice versa, or there was no real choice on offer to start with. There was no democracy in as much as neither of the electives were wanted by the people.

I think people wanted a change from the Clintons, and the only change on offer was Trump, it really was a no win situation. Some say that Trump appealed to peoples emotions, he was good TV even though some of the things he said were shocking and controversial. Also Hilary's scandals were denied by her even though people in their hearts believed them to be true, this rings as deceptive and that upsets trust, where as Trump was up front about being a male chauvinistic bigot, so even though his character was flawed it was out in the open.  Your electives also used popular groups like Jay-Z and Beyoncé, which again is deceptive because it blurs the line between who and what you are voting for. For me a politician should win on their credentials, if they don't have any then they shouldn't be running.

It may be wise next time to protest if the candidates are unacceptable to everyone rather than waiting until the blade drops, either that or vote  Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck.

Back in 2008 we had an election in Iran. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was announced to be the winner of the election and Mr. Mousavi lost according to results. We did not accept the results and then we started protesting for over 8 months. We made it a living hell for the government. But that was different. We believed they had been cheating and I still believe they cheated. But Donald Trump won it fair and square. The protestors could have gone to the streets and made their voice heard by voting not by doing all this that they have been doing. This is the beauty of a democracy that when a person is favoured by the majority of the voters, then everyone even the opponents should accept him in that position. Donald Trump is the winner. They have to get over it.

P.S. Democrats have to learn. This happens when you cheat on Bernie Sanders.

Otis. Sometimes you can be an enormous jerk. Whining? People are afraid of Chump and what it means to this country. He isn't those people's President and he isn't mine. A person like Chump doesn't get my respect just because of his title. He has to prove that he's respect worthy and since he isn't my President, he will never have it.

Even here, in Australia, people are obsessing over it.  It's driving me nuts.  As you said, it's a democracy.  People should at least give him a chance.  Hillary lost, and people need to understand that as much as they try, nothing much is going to change.  I highly doubt that Donald Trump is going to start WW3, and I think that he said a lot of what he said to gain voters.  He might not settle down now that he's elected in, but he might at least be a little less discriminatory.
