I found a couple of garter snakes in my yard and just let them be. They're harmless.

We found snake droppings in the garage. We do not know anything about snakes. We called animal control and they told us to call special private contract handlers.  They, the private contract handlers, wanted $300.00 just to show up and exam the situation. I purchased a $25.oo snake trap. In three days when I went to check I found Gold stripe colored snake about three feet long in the trap. Using a very long pole I took the little guy out into the woods and released it. Latter I was told it was possibly a copperhead.

Yes, I often find different kinds of snakes outside around the house. Mainly around the koi pond because the water seems to attract all kinds of life. I've seen garter snakes, black rat snakes, milk snakes and ringneck snakes. All of them are harmless so I don't harm them. Two years ago I relocated a black rat snake that was close to 5' long. I caught this little ringneck snake about a month ago.

I live in the woods in Florida snakes in the yard are common. And i have had a couple of snakes in a garage. When I was a kid we had a pair of rat snakes nesting in some boxes that were stored on out back patio. And once when Arabella was a puppy she killed a snake and brought in the house. That is all for in my house, but I have had friends with snakes in their houses.

One guy I knew was in bed one night. His wife got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. When her feet hit the floor he heard the unmistakable sound of a rattlesnake rattle. She quickly picked her feet back up which woke up her husband. He threw something of the bedside table on the floor and heard the snake too. He kept a loaded gun in his nightstand. He grabbed his gun crawled to the end of the bed and jumped to the door turned the light on and when the snake came out from under the bed he shot it. It was a dangerous move, but what made it truly  insane was he had terrazzo floors and a ricochet was a likely outcome and his wife was still in the bed. Thankfully he got the snake in one shot, and his wife was unharmed.
