my dog had that at one time, I took him to the vet and he had me clean his tail with betadine and apply an antibiotic ointment so Neosporin should be fine, but the best thing to do would be to take your dog to the vet to be sure what's causing it.

There could be any number of reasons why she is doing this .. From a sliver or even matted hair inside and inbetween the pads of her feet to a compulsive behaviour caused from stress.  If you can't figure it out .. It's time to see your vet.

Yep....sounds like your dog has an overgrowth of yeast. Dogs will bite at their feet due to the itching the overgrowth causes. As everyone has said, white rice and boiled chicken for a few days. My dog can't have grains so she gets boiled or most likely Steam in the bag potatoes from the frozen food section. I will also add low sodium broth to their water to see if that sparks their appetite.
