As I said once before, my Christmas card list gets shorter every year.  But death is a part of life, and is something we all have to accept.  Personally I have no problems with this, but I know it is very hard on some people.

I just hate to think of all the new stuff I will never see happening.

Yes so true .
If they found life on other planets, that would be enough for me.

That's my only regret, too, Korvo. We're living in a sci-fi world right now and I can't begin to imagine what wonders will become commonplace over the next 50 years.

Yes. It enters my mind quite a bit. I feel like I am running out of time.  I wish I could get in the car and just travel and see all of the USA and Canada for several years . I think that would  be so cool.

People in this family are dropping like flies as well. A ton of people feels the same as you. Including me which doesn't really make me feel any better. Live your life the best way that you know how. Try not to think about things you will never be able to control. The cycle of life can't and will not be stopped.

I really don't focus on that. I have too many things I still want to do. Plus I would rather focus on who is here. Plus my family is expanding. One nephew will be a first time daddy in a few short months. Another nephew is getting married. There is too much life to live for to think about dying.

While I'm very aware that time is getting increasingly short, I don't read the obits.  The main thing I notice is how time is passing by at a break neck pace.  I recently received my new Target debt card, I noticed that the experation year is 2024.  My first thought was, "wow, my Target card could out live me."

When I was about 9 years old I first read Robert Louis Stevenson's Requiem and it scared the bejesus out of me. I just couldn't understand how anybody could write "Glad did I live and I gladly die, and I lay me down with a will."

I'm older now and, statistically, am unlikely to last more than 10 years; but with age comes equanimity (if we're lucky, I guess) and death is no longer scary. It's the end of our journey.

The trick is to keep enjoying life while we have it. There won't be much chance after.

On the other hand, if the Buddhists are right, I'm gonna come back as a dog.

I'll settle for a pat on the head and a bag of Munchies. (I don't think shine is good for dogs.)

Im just going to enjoy them while they are here. And remember them when they are not... Its definitely sad but who knows what the future holds.. Me being 25, i could end up dead next week for all i know (could get hit by a car or die from an undetected health condition/complication) who knows. We have to enjoy eachother while we can.

Dear Otis,

No it doesn't seem bad...I am more determined now to spend my life my own way, avoiding/dodging other people's drama...less compliant to the will of others, less people-pleasing...not really defiant either, just try to stay under the radar and live my own way... Although I learned in Iowa that I WILL take a stand if I feel I must.

I am surprised at how well things have turned out, I never dreamed my life would be like this now.

I am completely open to (and anticipating) a transition into whatever-comes-next, but willing to hang around the planet a bit longer also if needed.

This is not THE END.

There is no death.

Only a new beginning.

Nothing is ever wasted.

Next life is just another channel on your radio dial.

Just another frequency. Some day they will be selling

life after death policy's. Celebrate your life with

everything.

No.

It's getting later and this party will eventually end.

But, wow, the previews I've seen of the next one indicate it will be the best one yet.

It's not out of the realm of possibility.

I would expect to be able to get a real time update at least if it turned out to be necessary to do so.

As Doris Day put it, "the future's not mine to see".  I've always looked at death fatalistically, not understanding at all how you can look at it any differently.  Like the sun coming up in the morning, it is going to happen no matter what.  Of course the sun is a bit more predictable.  Worrying about something I can't control is a waste of time.  I do agree with a lot of you - with all the exciting and frightening things we are on the cusp of, it would be great (or maybe really, really depressing)f to be able to see 50 or 100 years ahead.
