I agree. I actually buy a loaf, split it into thirds and freeze two thirds.
Why don't bread companies make bread in half loafs? That's more practical for one or two people to use.
Stroehmann does.

I have a 99 cent store that sells almost expired name brand bread that seems like they are all still fresh most of the time. I don't feel so bad when I chose not to use the whole loaf but at least it's there for if I want/need it
I buy a loaf and put one half in the freezer.
Many years ago I remember having the option to buy a small loaf or a large loaf---although the prices was only a small percent less than the large loaf.
Well, it's all in the way you look at it---you're only buying the 1/2 loaf that you intend to use, but you are paying the same prices as you would for the whole loaf.
---or half a loaf for you and half a loaf for your avian friends in the back yard.
---or use the other half to make sandwiches for the homeless(?)
It is just me and my son but we go through a loaf a wekk easy. I make a lot of french toast and freeze it.
