My first car, a Ford Anglia cost £370 (then about $700), I was in a well-paid job and a lot of my pals were jealous of my "nearly new" car. One of my closer friends also bought a Ford Anglia - his was about 6 years older and cost about £50 (then about $90). Fast forward to about 5 years ago. I lost a wheeltrim from my Volvo. Went to buy a replacement - £78 (now about $95). Years ago, it was possible to buy a whole car for less (in numerical terms) than the cost of a wheeltrim.
