Just curious  and I'm not a cat so it won't kill me ;) what do you Americans think the rest of the worlds opinions or stereotypes  are of you in general ? People from other countries are more than welcome to chime in ... if honest ;)

I live in L.A. So I think people think that I'm either dodging bullets from gang members or shopping in Beverly Hills.

I remember an article that's periodically circulated about how slim LA folks are and how FAT Houston folks are and it's a JOKE about Hollywood movies and high cost of living and how relative cheap it is here and we eat a lot LOL

Oh my, well you all do have the best steak and BBQ in Texas. Yep, we can't afford food here. Lol..We also don't wear a lot of clothes here. Good thing we have great weather. :)

Fat, loud, disrespectful.  Was in Canada in a restaurant and heard some American loudly bitching because she though the waitress had shorted her a single penny on translating American money to Canadian when paying the check.  I just told my waitress, "Good meal, eh' and left.

I know many countries think that we are arrogant and rude. And frankly, many Americans who travel abroad give them good reason to think so. I went to Paris years ago, and people kept telling how rude the French were. I was never treated rudely by any that I encountered. My fellow Americans in our group was another story. I was truly embarrassed by them.

A lot of our tourists don't do us much credit either. (Nine of them got kicked out of Malaysia just last week.) But when I was up at the Great Barrier Reef a few years ago I heard an elderly American complaining to his wife that "These are the most uncourteous people I've ever met." I would have explained that we were really DIScourteous but I didn't think it would help.

I don't know what had happened to him. I guess some pimply-faced kid serving him in a shop or a restaurant had called him "mate".

It has to be jealousy.  We are prettier.  We are smarter.  We pick the brightest minds to lead us to the promised land.  We have Rooster Cogburn.

You blew it Ed. It was a great list and nobody would disagree with a single word, but you left one out. You forgot to claim modesty. :)

It was an intentional omission. A confidence builder for those that would notice the list is incomplete.

I think other countries think we are ALL privileged, have everything, lots of money and are rude. Which is not true millions of us are peaceful.

I always attend Houston's yearly International Community Festival. I talk to people 😄 all over the world.

In spite of the bad publicity there are some beautiful places in Siberia. A bit chilly for me, but I'd love to visit.

And, yeah, I can understand why somebody from such a poor land would think we were all rich. By contrast, I suppose we are.

After a couple of years in Siberia,my son came home for a visit. He said that the most noticeable thing was how friendly people were in the US. Said that seeing smiling people was strange. If you smile in Russia, people get suspicious and think you are up to something.

America is a country that the world has lots of varied opinions on!

Starts of with ((some)) Islamic communities think (Westerners generally) specially U.S as bunch of naked people with no moral and no commitment within spouses. Lost people who would go to hell for drinking and using beaches (just an example for nakedness in their eyes) or touching the opposite gender while having none blood relation.

Because fast food is the home of America. Many has this idea that Americans mostly are weighted. Once upon a time it's been true tho. But America invented many fitness devices later on. And named one of the most fitness leading countries and DC is leading in the states! But the stereotype remains there for some!

I know some used to think Americans are just wealthy people who caved in gold or we have been called Dirty Americans at some point.  But in the same time we helped and blessed many which i've seen appreciations. Many students around the world wish to educate in U.S system and they get over the moon to have U.S education scholarship. And many more . .

So there are many good thoughts toward us as well. Many wish our freedom and the life of living. Many do their best to just give birth inside United States's soil for their kids basic rights and quality of life. Also the world been blessed by how many wonderful movies and admirable artists we produce for them. Even any artist wants to be heard and seen ? They enter U.S because of the mainstream and professionalism. The world seeing that and i have seen how they appreciate it.

Being Canadian .. I have personally witnessed many good qualities of the 'typical' American folk .. As well as, some that are not so good.

On American soil  .. I find people generally  (in the general public) untrusting and most often avoid eye contact unless confronted with a friendly 'hello'.  Much depends on where you are.  In a mall for example (and I only mention this because I have experienced the same relative behaviour in the many states I have travelled, the farther south, the more apparant it is) .. I could literally walk down the corridor and not see one person look at me and smile .. They will look at me and when I smile, they'll turn their face away so as not to continue the 'confrontation'.  Of course, there are the few acceptions .. But, for the most part there is a pattern of behaviour.

On Canadian soil .. Seeing how they often treat servers, attendants and clerks, etc is .. Well, ..  Disappointing.  No one likes to be talked 'down' to.  Again .. I'm not saying ALL behave this way .. It's just astonishing to note how often it does happen.  Ask any one who is the service industry and they will tell you .. Across the board, the Americans are the worst tippers.

For the record .. I have also enjoyed many encounters with Americans both here and there .. And found those people to be courteous and polite.

I've had some of the same experiences when in the U.S. It's so weird to me that people don't make eye contact there ... Where I live when you pass people walking on sidewalks you at least smile and node .. If not say hi.
