Well, now days only for weddings and funerals.

Once in a while a special milestone birthday party.

About four or five times a year.  I actually wish there were more opportunities to really dress up.  We need a "senior" prom .... That is, a prom for seniors like me who love to wear beautiful dresses.

For me now-a-days it is just weddings, without a tie. When I retired way back when I swore I would never, ever wear a tie again with one exception. I would wear a bow tie for my youngest daugyhter's wedding. Right now it doesn't look like I have to worry about that either,

We have a Birthday dinner and entertainment  (at the 55+ center we belong to) each month for the members that have a birthday that month.  We always dress up for that.

I went on a cruise in 1999.  Rented a Tux  for the formal dinner.  And IMHO, I looked quite dashing.  Since that occasion, "Formal" meeans a clean Tee with no spots on it.
