Lots of people use bonsai to grow miniature trees and that's fair enough but I want to grow a giant bonsai. Would I need a cherry picker or would a ladder be good enough to get up into the branches? What other tools would I need?

Definitely a cherry picker as well as a chainsaw, loper, hand snipper, giant root rake, humongous planting pot and a giant plant mister.

Sounds good, Hippy. What equipment would I need to remove the roof tiles if I wanted to take it indoors?

A tile rake or C-4, either would do the job.

C-4 sounds a bit dramatic. I guess I'll need a tree with a big canopy to keep most of the rain out.

A local garden centre advertised a "Massive Bonsai sale" last year.

So just trees then?

Damn! I thought it was an original idea. Massive huh? Sounds as though they're selling giant-sized ready made. Where's the skill in that?

Here's a site for "macro bonsai" olive trees that should give you some ideas:

Yes, Didge---you posted this once before and accessed the site then.

Such an animal would be incredibly cute.

And supposedly, "bonsai" translates roughly to "tree in a pot," so whatever pot size you choose is apparently the significant factor that determines the other tool sizes you need.

So if I wanted a really big bonsai I'd opt for a pot the size of Yankee Stadium...
