How much do you think a child should get from the Tooth Fairy? When I was a kid we got a quarter, in today's economy that is about $1.60, so I can see a buck or two, MAYBE $5.

1 dollar, or something worth as much like a plastic figurine was what I got

I used to get a dime or a quarter from the tooth fairy. My nieces, aged 7 and 4, get $5, which I find a little ridiculous. I think a dollar would be sufficient today.

.......... (Yins head is down)

I am guilty of the five dollar tooth fairy. When our oldest lost her first tooth my husband had just landed a wonderful paying job so I wanted to spoil her rotten. As the years went by so did the job but the tooth fairy was already set in at that price. 15 years later and child number four hasn't lost his first tooth yet..... But at least she hasn't gone up in price as the years went on like minimum wage does. She has remained the same...... Lol!

Don't feel too guilty. I was watching the Today show and they were doing cooking with kids. One little girl just lost her first tooth and got $50! That is WAY too much! Even if you can afford it.

I got a dime, and thought I was rich. That would buy a Coke and candy bar.

5 bucks? Who are we talking about here, 5,6 &7 year olds?  What does a little kid need with that kind of cash when you buy everything for them anyway. I was never interested in incentivizing a cottage industry by overcompensating a natural act. Since a quarter buys nothing anymore, a dollar is fair, imo.

Yep. Kids that age frequently don't distinguish between a $20 dollar bill and a $1 dollar bill---after all, they'e both the same color and size, and both are made from paper.
