I remember a little paper pouch on yarn that we wore around our necks. Each day my mom would put in 4 cents to pay for my milk. I also remember little rugs for nap time and huge cardboard blocks to play with.
Elmer's white glue didn't taste good.
They were stingy with the orange slices.
The boys always pulled on my pony tails.
~ awe fond memories ~
Kindergarten was in the ground floor of a church.
Nap time.
Riding a big wooden toy firetruck down the hill in the parking lot.
Never went to kindergarten! Started 1st grade.
1. I remember crying on the first day because I didn't want to leave my mom.
2. I remember peeing my pants some time toward the end of the year.
3. I remember being the only boy who liked playing with the dollhouse :P
My teacher was Miss Green and the onky teacher that wasn't a nun.
We went for a 1/2 day.
And two guys in a red chevy pickup tried to kidnap me.
Stopping for a Donut after being picked up from there . .. Strawberry frosted to be exact.
My first friend of racial diversity . . . My mother made such a big deal out of it that it is forever etched in the brain.
Playing with clay . . . Not playdough, actual clay.
Kindergarten for me was 1942 -- that wasn't pre-school which didn't exist in Oz at that time, but my first class at school. Lots of things to remember.
Air raid drill in case those nasty Japanese flew over. (We had a submarine attack in Sydney Harbour about that time.)
Miss Johnson, my first teacher. I remember her as a big lady but that might have been because Mrs Jones was so small.
Our headmistress was Mrs Ridley and she kept us all lined up each morning trying to say her name right. "Good morning, Mrs Ridley" would have been nice, but we ALL said "Mrs Wriggly" which apparently vexed her. She never let it go.
I was one of the few kids in the class who always knew left from right. Learning left and right were part of our lessons. (I had a burn scar on my right knee -- it's still there very faintly -- and I only had to look at my knees to know which was right.)
My awesome teacher who had long brown hair and wore knee high boots and denim culottes (early 1970's).
Finasly learning to tie my shoes by myself
Getting to do an errand to the office for my teacher then walking back into the wrong kindergarten room (that hallway was looong and all the doors looked the same {no one decorated the outside of doors back then}).
I stepped into my "wayback machine" and realized there were no kindergartens back then in my neck of the woods. If both parents worked preschoolers were usually left with relatives for the day and you picked up what ever nasty habits they had.
2. The board game Candyland
3. Getting in trouble for talking during "quiet time" 😁
I remember my best friend, my kind teacher, and nap time!
I remember my teacher was Ms. Quadelbomb!
I remember being jealous of my sister cuz she got to have fun with mom while I was stuck in icky school. (She was a year and a half younger then me.)
But I also remember that was the year I had met my friend who would be my best friend for the next 25 years.
Naptime - coloring with those big fat crayons (who remembers those Big Chief tablets?) - and feeling grownup not being at home all day with Mom!
1. One of the special kids bit me on the arm during recess and took a chunk out of my arm, then the school not notifying my dad about it.
2. My grandparents always picked me up because my mother walked out on us.
3. Getting forced to dance with a boy while wearing a skirt wnd a stupid paper worm hat in the spring concert thing. Pure torture. People took pictures.
