You have to know yourself, be honest with yourself, come to terms with yourself. (in addition to all of the above)
Seeing the "Glass Half Full" helps . . . Stepping back and seeing something or someone for what it/they are and understanding the nature of things as they will be and not as you want them to be.
This is a REAL EFFORT for me . . . Since I have a creative mind and a great imagination, I mentally construct how I think something should be, and then when it falls short of MY mental imagine it tends to depress me . . . I have had to learn to stop, and try to understand things and people better. It is difficult for me to watch my youngest struggle with the same thing . . . I try to offer perspective but ultimately this will have to be something he learns on his own.
Being content and grateful with what you have. It doesn't mean that you cannot strive to improve your circumstances, but to have a thankful spirit for what you already have.
