My grandmother died when I was seven.

We flew back to New York for the funeral.  That evening, I was told to get ready to leave to go see grandma.  (I thought, "Oh she's not really dead.")

Head to the funeral parlor, go in,  I ask my father where grandma is.  He says "in that roomI."  I run in and there is grandma in the casket.

Slept with a light on for at least a month afterwards.  I'll be 74 this month and I still occasionally have problems with the dark.

The more stories I hear of your childhood, the more my heart goes out to you. I am so sorry my friend. You dealt with a lot of death at that age. 😔

Thanks, Yin---my parents had no idea of the harm they did to me.

At least it stopped with me (only child); and my children are quite pleased with my parenting.

As long as my sister was there... I was always okay. 😔

I’m not afraid of the dark in my house. But I’m very uncomfortable outside in the dark.

Not really. I didn't seem to require a nightlight or anything. I didn't like walking down the hallway at night unless there were lights on. But as far as my bedroom was concerned, I wanted it dark at night and always have.
