When you are at a pool, beach, river or lake are you a "jump in right away" kind of person or the "toe tester" kind of person?

Depends upon how uncomfortable I am the time . . . Heat/humidity wise.

I generally wade in.  I used to jump right in, but after a scary experience I don't do that anymore. I live where there are several natural springs. The water in the springs is always 72 degrees F. (22C) I jumped in on a hot day. It was in the mid 90s and with the humidity but the  heat index well over 100F (38C). Just as I surfaced I started to pass out from the shock of the temperature change. A friend jumped in with me, and I said something to them to let them know I was in trouble and they helped me out of he water. Since then I never jump in.

THAT IS SCARY!!! You always hear about the shock to the body fallen into icy cold waters but hardly ever do you think of the opposite. WOW! It's understandable you don't jump in!

Omg..just started swimming last year after a long phobia.

I'm a toe tester, ankle tester, knee tester and thigh tester. Then I plunge in.

A swimming pool I will jump right in. Any other body of water I slowly wade out, too many things and creatures in there.

I'm none of these.  Not going in any water other than my bathtub.

Sorry The Z, no can do. I almost drown as a kid and I've never been back in the water since.

Balls-out, bum rush into the surf is my style. Pools are rarely deep enough for my liking. Love the water, water sports, water craft, you name it.

I usually jump in quickly and start getting used to the temperature.  Going in an inch at a time keeps me uncomfortable longer.

Hello! I cannot swim, but I do enjoy being in the
water at times. I will normally test the water for its temperature, I hate cold
water! If it’s fine, I will get in and walk around for a while and take a dip
within a few minutes. However, it's harder when the water is cold, let’s not
talk about it!
